Mr Arup Ray was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in 1994. This unit in Glasgow is one of the most prestigious and internationally renowned Plastic Surgery Units in the world and has pioneered several plastic surgical techniques that are now widely applied the world over.
Mr Ray completed his training in the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit as a Senior Registrar and successfully passed the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in 1993 and was the first recipient in the United Kingdom of the Ian McGregor gold medal in Plastic Surgery.
He has been extensively trained in all areas of cosmetic/aesthetic surgery and his areas of subspecialty interest as a Consultant in the NHS include Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery and Breast Reconstruction Surgery. As the most senior practising Surgeon in the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, his extensive experience in these areas of subspecialisation have been invaluable in acquiring the expertise needed for Facial Aesthetic Surgery, complex and difficult Rhinoplasties and Breast Aesthetic Surgery.
He was also awarded the prize for the best presentation at the British Association of Aesthetic Surgery Meeting.
He was one of the first surgeons in Glasgow to use and popularise anatomical cohesive gel implants for breast augmentation. These types of implants are now widely used.
He has lectured and undertaken operative demonstrations and teaching of Junior Plastic Surgeons in the areas of Facial Aesthetic Surgery, Breast Aesthetic Surgery and Body Contouring Surgery in Sweden, Portugal, Peru and India.
He has, over the past 15 years as a Consultant, mentored several trainees, many of whom are now Consultants in the UK and abroad.
He is the Course Director of the prestigious Canniesburn Pre-Fellowship Course.
