Experience

Mr Chilaka qualified at the University of Ibadan Nigeria in 1982. His residency training started at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu Nigeria where he progressed to the post of a Senior Registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology before travelling to the UK in 1992. He obtained MRCOG in 1994 and Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) the same year.

In England, he continued training first at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, before embarking on a registrar rotation through the Northern Region. He finally came back to the University Hospitals of Leicester where he obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2003. During this period, he spent five years working at the Urogynaecology Unit of Leicester General Hospital (a regional centre for urogynaecology).

In 2003, he was appointed consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, at Derby City Hospital with special interest in Urogynaecology and Pelvic Floor Reconstruction.

Mr Chilaka was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in recognition of his contribution to the specialty in 2006.

Apart from hospital work, Mr Chilaka is interested in charitable and non-profit organisations with helping with maternal and child health in the developing countries.
