Experience
Mr Benson qualified from Oxford University Clinical School in 1984 (Graduate Scholar, St Peter’s College, MA (oxon), BM BCh) and was awarded a Doctorate from the University in 1997 (DM). He received specialist training in Breast Diseases at The Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, London. Mr Benson was a Clinical Research Fellow and subsequently held the post of Senior Registrar in Surgery at the Sutton branch of the Royal Marsden before moving on to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to complete general surgical training. Further experience was gained in breast reconstructive techniques as Visiting Professor at the New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Centre in 1997. He was elected to a Bye-Fellowship at Selwyn College, Cambridge in 2006 and became a full Fellow in October 2007. Mr Benson is Director of Clinical Studies at Selwyn College and a member of the Panel of Examiners, Intercollegiate MRCS Examination (Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh). He was appointed a Regional Breast Tutor (Eastern Region) by The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007.
Research
Mr Benson has published widely in the field of breast disease and has recently co-ordinated a high profile seminar on breast cancer for The Lancet. He is author of a specialist text entitled ‘TGFß and Cancer” and co-editor of two bestselling books in the field of breast cancer and reconstructive surgery.
