Hospital facts
Originally the site was established as a nursing home for the care of the poor and sick of Glasgow in 1874 by a Miss McAlpin, who also used the site to train nurses for the other medical establishments in Glasgow. On 2nd October 1907 she retired and was gifted a gold plated casket, which is displayed in the reception area, by the City of Glasgow for 32 years of service to the poor. The site continues as a nursing home and was acquired and redeveloped into a hospital by Nuffield in 1973.
